The Mobile Mistletoe Series (Books 1-4) Page 10

“I’m happy you didn’t cut off the beard and trim your hair until after you were looking for me, because every girl in Boulder Creek would have been after you. Damn. You are handsome!”

“What about you. A cheerleader? I know there’s a story here.” He twisted her long black ponytail with his fingers and kissed the tip of her nose.

“My girlfriends and I decided to dress up as something we would never be in real life. For me, I will never be a cheerleader.” Jane spun on the tips of her tennis shoes and flipped the short white, pleated skirt. “But for tonight, what do you think?”

“I think you should keep the outfit until we know each other on all levels. Sooner would be better than later.” He wiggled his dark eyebrows. She swallowed at his innuendo. Without the beard, she could clearly see his eyes. They were the color of sapphires, and twinkled wickedly.

  “I’ll second that.”

He took her hand. “Let’s go back in the party and you can introduce me to your friends. I hope to see a lot more of them in the future and I want to make sure we start off on good terms. Who’s the guy that was giving me the serious stink eye?”

“That’s Jack, Kara’s husband. He’s a cop and protective of all of us.”

“Good, but I’m taking care of you, now, and you can take care of me. I’m kind of an old-fashioned kind of guy. When you introduce me, you can leave out the ex-con part. It’s a party-mood breaker. We’ll tell them another time.” Gage pulled her against his firm chest and kissed her again until she was light headed. “Come on.” He took her hand. “I think I’m ready to jump into that life number three.”
